Warm metal against dark paint

Antique brass sits well with almost anything matt and dark, which is why it has taken over from chrome in living and dining rooms over the last few years.

We hold 570 pieces in it, from a table lamp under a hundred pounds to a chandelier at several thousand.

What we'd tell you in the showroom

Antique brass is not really brass, it is brass that has been knocked back so it sits warm rather than shiny. That is why it works against dark paint, oak and almost any green.

The one everybody buys is the Endon Marietta, five glass rods on an antique brass frame, and enough of them left the building this summer to make it the most ordered fitting in the shop.

One warning about mixing. Antique brass and polished chrome in the same room will fight. Antique brass and matt black will not. If you are already committed to chrome, start with Chrome and Polished Nickel instead.
