What we'd tell you in the showroom

French gold, polished brass, natural brass, satin, brushed and gold leaf are not interchangeable, and the photograph rarely tells you which you are getting.

As a rule: polished for a formal room with something to reflect, satin or brushed where the fitting should be warm but quiet, and leaf only where you want the light broken up rather than bounced.

If the room already has antique brass in it, look at The Antique Brass Edit rather than mixing a bright gold in beside it.
