What we'd tell you in the showroom

Wall lights are the fitting most often bought one at a time and regretted. Buy them in pairs, either side of a chimney breast, a bed or a mirror, and the room looks designed rather than furnished.

Mount at 150 to 170cm to the centre for a shaded or uplighting wall light. A picture light is the exception. It is mounted for the frame, and the Chawton or Alton needs its arm to clear the top of the picture by a few centimetres.
