The cage, the drum and the globe

Bronze pendants come in three shapes. The open cage, like the Hinkley Fulton, which is all frame and no glass. The shaded drum, like the Endon Hayfield and Indara, which is soft light through linen. And the glass globe, the Feiss Adams or the Astro Veo, which sits somewhere between.

What we'd tell you in the showroom

A cage pendant shows its lamps, so buy the lamps as carefully as the fitting. A clear filament LED in an open cage is the whole look, and a frosted lamp kills it.

The Fulton Large at 85cm across is an entrance hall piece and wants a double-height space. For a standard 2.4m ceiling the Hayfield or a single Daley is the right scale, and a shaded pendant is kinder over a bed than a cage.
