Kitchen Island Pendant Lighting

Kitchen island pendant lighting typically hangs down directly above the island itself. It is a form of lighting that is functional and aesthetically appealing at the same time. Our selection of kitchen island pendant lights includes pieces made by the world's most renowned lighting designers, such as Masiero, Eichholtz, and Hudson Valley.

Our collection of kitchen island pendant lighting includes:

* Traditional triple lights with opaque silvered glass domes
* Eight-light twin ring pendants made with antique brass and Egyptian Asfour crystal
* Delicate hand-painted pieces encrusted with crystal gems and silver
* Sleek dimmable designs made with ultra-lightweight aluminium
* Five-pendant gold plated pieces with heights that can be adjusted to provide you with a bespoke fit.

These are just some of the pendants available from our website, so please enjoy browsing. We're sure you'll find the type of kitchen island pendant lighting that is right for you – and if you need any help, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Kitchen Island Lights Recommendations & Buying Advice

There are a few good options: a run of matching pendants, a linear or multi-arm fitting with several lights on one frame, or a single statement pendant if your island is smaller. Which works best comes down to the length of your island and the look you're after, more decorative and layered, or one clean focal point.

Glass and metal pendants are the classic, versatile choice, they let light spread while still adding shape above the island. For a bolder look, go sculptural or opaque shades that read as a real design feature. A single large pendant suits a smaller island, while a run of two or three smaller ones usually works better along a longer one.

A good starting point is to measure your island and pick a light, or run of lights, that's roughly half that length. So a very large pendant might overwhelm a 2m island but suit a 4m one comfortably. Beyond size, think about how much task light you need for prep and cooking versus how much it's just for atmosphere.

Start with the island's length. Under 1.5m, consider one large pendant or two small ones. From 1.5 to 1.8m, two is a useful starting point. From 1.8 to under 2.4m, consider two large or three medium pendants. At 2.4m and over, consider three pendants or one linear fitting. For separate pendants, start with 60 to 75cm between centres, check the shades have room between them, and keep the group within the middle two-thirds of the island.

As a guideline, allow around 75 to 90cm between the bottom of the pendant and the worktop. That's low enough to feel intimate and focus the light where you're working, without being at head height or dazzling anyone stood at the island. Adjust within that range for your own height and how the island gets used day to day.

Usually, yes, most kitchen island lights are centred for a balanced look. That said, it's not a hard rule: lights can sit slightly off-centre if the island is used more heavily on one side, or shifted towards the seating end rather than the prep end. Think about how you actually use the island before defaulting to dead centre.

Not at all, they're still one of the most popular choices for a kitchen island. The look has moved on though, expect more sculptural shapes, mixed metals and coloured glass alongside the classic single-drop pendant. With hundreds of styles to choose from, there's plenty of scope to keep it classic or make more of a statement.

Not usually, kitchen island lights are generally sold as the fitting only. Each product page lists the exact bulbs needed, including how many, so check there before you order, especially if you're fitting a run of three or more pendants and want them to match. This also means you can pick warmer or brighter bulbs to suit how the island gets used.
